Ouzoud Waterfalls Day Trip from Marrakech

Your day begins with an early morning pickup from your accommodation in Marrakech. Leaving behind the lively streets of the Red City, you’ll head northeast through Morocco’s picturesque countryside, passing fertile plains, olive farms, and traditional villages where everyday life continues at a relaxed pace.

As the journey continues, you’ll witness a gradual transformation in the landscape, with rolling hills, rocky plateaus, and peaceful rural scenery replacing the city’s bustling atmosphere. Along the route, your driver may stop at scenic viewpoints, allowing you to stretch your legs and admire the beauty of the surrounding countryside while learning about local traditions and village life.

After approximately three hours, you’ll arrive at the breathtaking Ouzoud Waterfalls, a natural wonder where water plunges more than 100 meters down dramatic cliffs into crystal-clear pools below. Surrounded by olive trees and lush vegetation, the waterfalls create one of Morocco’s most impressive natural landscapes.

Once at Ouzoud, you’ll have plenty of free time to explore the area at your own pace. Follow well-maintained walking paths that lead to various panoramic viewpoints overlooking the cascading falls, each offering unique opportunities for spectacular photographs. Along the trails, you may encounter friendly Barbary macaques that roam freely through the surrounding forest and often interact with visitors.

For an even closer experience, you can choose an optional traditional boat ride that takes you near the base of the waterfalls, where you’ll feel the refreshing mist and fully appreciate the immense power of the cascades. Those who prefer a slower pace can relax at one of the riverside cafés while enjoying the peaceful sound of rushing water and the surrounding natural beauty.

At lunchtime, you’ll have the opportunity to enjoy authentic Moroccan cuisine at a local restaurant overlooking the waterfalls. Freshly prepared tagines, grilled specialties, salads, and traditional bread are served with unforgettable views, creating the perfect setting for a relaxing break.

During the afternoon, continue discovering hidden viewpoints, quiet walking trails, and charming corners of the valley before beginning the return journey to Marrakech. The drive back offers another chance to admire Morocco’s beautiful rural landscapes as the changing afternoon light creates stunning scenery across the countryside.

By early evening, you’ll arrive back at your accommodation in Marrakech, bringing to an end an unforgettable day filled with spectacular waterfalls, beautiful landscapes, local culture, and memorable encounters with Morocco’s unique wildlife.

Everything else you might be wondering about the trip

You don’t need to be an athlete, but you should be comfortable walking for an hour or two over uneven ground — gorge trails, kasbah stairs, soft sand. The camel trek itself needs no fitness at all; the camel does the work. If you have concerns about a specific day, ask us before booking and we’ll tell you honestly whether it’s a fit.
March–May and September–November are ideal: warm days, cool desert nights, and comfortable temperatures in the mountains. July and August in the Sahara can exceed 45°C at midday, and December–February nights in the desert camp drop close to freezing — both doable with the right prep, but worth knowing in advance.
Yes — most of our travelers come solo and join a small group of 8–12 people. Rooms are shared on a twin-share basis by default; if you’d rather have your own room, a single supplement is available on request.
Layers. Desert days are warm, but temperatures can drop sharply after sunset, especially outside summer. A warm mid-layer, a scarf or shesh for sand and sun, and comfortable closed shoes for the dunes and gorge walks cover most of it. We send a full packing list once you book.
We’d recommend bottled or filtered water throughout, which is what your guide and driver will drink too. It’s widely available, and we’ll make sure you always have access to it, including out at the desert camp.
Yes. Vegetarian, vegan, and most allergy-related requirements are easy to manage across the riads, hotels, and desert camp — just let us know when you book so we can flag it with each stop along the route.
Full details are in your booking confirmation, but broadly: cancellations more than 60 days out receive a full refund minus the deposit; inside 30 days, cancellation fees increase on a sliding scale. We’ll always talk it through with you directly if plans change.
