Ourika Valley Day Trip from Marrakech

Your adventure begins in the morning when your driver picks you up from your accommodation in Marrakech. Leaving behind the busy streets of the city, you’ll travel toward the High Atlas Mountains, where the scenery quickly changes from bustling urban life to peaceful countryside dotted with olive groves, orchards, and traditional Berber villages.

As the road winds deeper into the mountains, you’ll enjoy several panoramic stops to admire the dramatic landscapes and capture beautiful photographs. Along the route, you’ll visit a local women’s argan oil cooperative, where you’ll learn about the traditional methods used to produce Morocco’s famous argan oil and discover how it has been used for generations in cooking and cosmetics.

Continuing into the valley, you’ll pass through authentic Berber communities where life has remained largely unchanged for centuries. Here, you’ll have the opportunity to experience genuine local hospitality while enjoying a refreshing glass of traditional Moroccan mint tea in a family home or a mountain café overlooking the valley.

By late morning, you’ll arrive in the picturesque village of Setti Fatma, the most famous destination in the Ourika Valley. Surrounded by towering peaks and flowing streams, the village serves as the gateway to a series of beautiful waterfalls hidden within the mountains. Travelers who enjoy walking can join an optional hike with a licensed local guide, following scenic mountain paths that lead to the waterfalls while discovering native plants, rock formations, and spectacular viewpoints along the way.

If you prefer a more relaxing experience, you can spend your free time beside the crystal-clear river, stroll through the village’s narrow streets, browse small local shops selling handmade crafts.

At lunchtime, you’ll have the chance to savor authentic Moroccan cuisine at a riverside restaurant, where traditional tagines, fresh salads, grilled specialties, and local bread are served with stunning mountain views. The relaxing sound of flowing water creates the perfect setting for an unforgettable meal.

During the afternoon, you’ll continue exploring the valley at a leisurely pace, stopping at scenic viewpoints that showcase the lush green terraces, fruit orchards, and dramatic mountain landscapes that make the Ourika Valley one of Morocco’s most beautiful natural destinations. Depending on timing, you may also have the opportunity to visit local artisan workshops or a traditional Berber market if your excursion coincides with market day.

As the day comes to an end, you’ll begin the comfortable drive back to Marrakech, enjoying one last look at the breathtaking High Atlas Mountains before arriving at your accommodation in the early evening, bringing your memorable Ourika Valley Day Trip from Marrakech to a perfect conclusion.

Everything else you might be wondering about the trip

You don’t need to be an athlete, but you should be comfortable walking for an hour or two over uneven ground — gorge trails, kasbah stairs, soft sand. The camel trek itself needs no fitness at all; the camel does the work. If you have concerns about a specific day, ask us before booking and we’ll tell you honestly whether it’s a fit.
March–May and September–November are ideal: warm days, cool desert nights, and comfortable temperatures in the mountains. July and August in the Sahara can exceed 45°C at midday, and December–February nights in the desert camp drop close to freezing — both doable with the right prep, but worth knowing in advance.
Yes — most of our travelers come solo and join a small group of 8–12 people. Rooms are shared on a twin-share basis by default; if you’d rather have your own room, a single supplement is available on request.
Layers. Desert days are warm, but temperatures can drop sharply after sunset, especially outside summer. A warm mid-layer, a scarf or shesh for sand and sun, and comfortable closed shoes for the dunes and gorge walks cover most of it. We send a full packing list once you book.
We’d recommend bottled or filtered water throughout, which is what your guide and driver will drink too. It’s widely available, and we’ll make sure you always have access to it, including out at the desert camp.
Yes. Vegetarian, vegan, and most allergy-related requirements are easy to manage across the riads, hotels, and desert camp — just let us know when you book so we can flag it with each stop along the route.
Full details are in your booking confirmation, but broadly: cancellations more than 60 days out receive a full refund minus the deposit; inside 30 days, cancellation fees increase on a sliding scale. We’ll always talk it through with you directly if plans change.
