Detailed Programme

Itinerary — 4 Days / 3 Nights

1
Casablanca – Rabat – Fes

Imperial Cities & Fes

Your 4 Days Marrakech to Fes Desert Tour begins with an early morning departure from Marrakech as you head towards the spectacular High Atlas Mountains. Crossing the famous Tizi n’Tichka Pass, you’ll enjoy panoramic mountain scenery, winding roads, and traditional Berber villages perched along the hillsides. Several scenic stops allow plenty of opportunities for photographs and short breaks.

Descending from the mountains, you’ll arrive at the magnificent Kasbah of Ait Ben Haddou, Morocco’s most famous fortified village and a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Accompanied by a local guide, you’ll explore its narrow alleys, ancient mud-brick buildings, and hilltop viewpoints while discovering the fascinating history of this former caravan trading post.

Surrounded by thousands of palm trees, the oasis is home to the beautifully preserved Kasbah Amridil, one of the country’s finest examples of traditional southern Moroccan architecture.

Later, travel through the fragrant Rose Valley, famous for its annual rose harvest, before reaching the breathtaking Dades Valley, where you’ll spend the night in a comfortable hotel overlooking the surrounding mountains.

2
Fes – Ifrane – Cedar Forest – Ziz Valley – Merzouga Desert

Mountains to the Sahara

Leave the imperial city of Fes and begin your journey toward the Sahara Desert. Your first stop is the charming mountain town of Ifrane, famous for its alpine-style architecture, clean streets, and cool climate. Continue through the Middle Atlas Mountains to the Cedar Forest, where you may encounter the playful Barbary macaques in their natural habitat.

The journey continues through Midelt before descending into the spectacular Ziz Valley, where thousands of palm trees create one of Morocco’s most impressive oasis landscapes.

Meet your camel caravan and enjoy a memorable ride across the golden sand dunes as the sun begins to set over the Sahara. After reaching your luxury desert camp, relax with traditional mint tea before enjoying a delicious Moroccan dinner. Spend the evening around the campfire listening to Berber music beneath one of the clearest night skies in the world.

3
Merzouga – Rissani – Todra Gorge – Dades Valley

Desert Sunrise & Dades

Today is entirely dedicated to discovering the unique beauty and culture of the Sahara Desert. After breakfast, begin exploring the Merzouga region with visits to fascinating desert landscapes, hidden oases, and traditional nomadic communities. Meet a local Berber family and enjoy Moroccan tea while learning about their centuries-old lifestyle and traditions that continue to thrive in the harsh desert environment.

Continue to Khamlia Village, famous for its vibrant Gnawa music, where musicians perform powerful rhythms inherited from generations of West African heritage. This authentic cultural experience offers a unique insight into one of Morocco’s richest musical traditions.

Walk across the dunes, try sandboarding, photograph the changing colors of the desert, or simply relax while admiring the endless landscapes stretching to the horizon.

Late in the afternoon, your camel caravan awaits to begin a memorable trek across the golden dunes of Erg Chebbi. Watch the Sahara transform into brilliant shades of gold and orange as the sun slowly disappears behind the dunes.

Arriving at your luxury desert camp, you’ll be welcomed with traditional Moroccan hospitality before enjoying a delicious dinner beneath the stars. The evening continues with Berber music around the campfire and exceptional stargazing before spending the night in your private luxury tent.

4
Dades Valley – Ouarzazate – Ait Ben Haddou – Marrakech

Kasbahs & Atlas Mountains

After breakfast, begin the final day of your journey by traveling through the beautiful Valley of Roses before reaching Ouarzazate, often referred to as the “Hollywood of Morocco.” If you wish, you can visit the famous Atlas Film Studios, where numerous international productions have been filmed.

Continue to the legendary Kasbah of Ait Ben Haddou, a UNESCO World Heritage Site and one of Morocco’s finest examples of traditional earthen architecture. Wander through its ancient alleys and discover why it has appeared in famous films and television productions.

In the afternoon, cross the spectacular High Atlas Mountains via the scenic Tizi n’Tichka Pass, enjoying several panoramic stops along the way. Frequently Asked Questions

Everything else you might be wondering about the trip

You don’t need to be an athlete, but you should be comfortable walking for an hour or two over uneven ground — gorge trails, kasbah stairs, soft sand. The camel trek itself needs no fitness at all; the camel does the work. If you have concerns about a specific day, ask us before booking and we’ll tell you honestly whether it’s a fit.
March–May and September–November are ideal: warm days, cool desert nights, and comfortable temperatures in the mountains. July and August in the Sahara can exceed 45°C at midday, and December–February nights in the desert camp drop close to freezing — both doable with the right prep, but worth knowing in advance.
Yes — most of our travelers come solo and join a small group of 8–12 people. Rooms are shared on a twin-share basis by default; if you’d rather have your own room, a single supplement is available on request.
Layers. Desert days are warm, but temperatures can drop sharply after sunset, especially outside summer. A warm mid-layer, a scarf or shesh for sand and sun, and comfortable closed shoes for the dunes and gorge walks cover most of it. We send a full packing list once you book.
We’d recommend bottled or filtered water throughout, which is what your guide and driver will drink too. It’s widely available, and we’ll make sure you always have access to it, including out at the desert camp.
Yes. Vegetarian, vegan, and most allergy-related requirements are easy to manage across the riads, hotels, and desert camp — just let us know when you book so we can flag it with each stop along the route.
Full details are in your booking confirmation, but broadly: cancellations more than 60 days out receive a full refund minus the deposit; inside 30 days, cancellation fees increase on a sliding scale. We’ll always talk it through with you directly if plans change.
