Detailed Programme

Itinerary — 3 Days / 2 Nights

1
Fes - Ifrane - Cedar Forest - Midelt - Ziz Valley - Merzouga Desert

From Fes to the Sahara

Your trip begins with an early morning pickup from your hotel or riad in Fes. Leaving the imperial city behind, you’ll travel south through the scenic Middle Atlas Mountains.

The first stop is the charming town of Ifrane, famous for its European-style architecture, clean streets, and cool mountain climate. Continue toward the Cedar Forest of Azrou, where you’ll have the chance to observe Barbary macaques living freely among centuries-old cedar trees.

After lunch near Midelt, continue your journey through the spectacular Tizi n’Talghamt Pass before descending into the breathtaking Ziz Valley, one of Morocco’s largest oasis regions filled with endless palm groves and traditional villages. Several panoramic viewpoints offer excellent opportunities for memorable photographs.

Arriving in Merzouga during the late afternoon, you’ll leave your vehicle behind and begin an unforgettable camel trek across the golden dunes of Erg Chebbi. Stop on a high dune to admire the magical desert sunset before continuing to your luxury desert camp.

After settling into your private tent, enjoy a delicious Moroccan dinner followed by traditional Berber music around the campfire beneath the sparkling Sahara sky.

2
Merzouga - Erfoud - Tinghir - Dades Gorge

Desert to Dades Valley

Wake up early to witness one of the Sahara’s most unforgettable experiences as the rising sun gradually illuminates the golden dunes. After breakfast, return to Merzouga by camel or comfortable 4×4 vehicle where your driver will be waiting.

Your journey continues toward Erfoud, a town famous for its fossil workshops and marble craftsmanship. After a short visit, drive through palm-filled oases and traditional Berber villages on your way to the spectacular Todra Gorge.

Take time to explore this magnificent canyon, where towering limestone cliffs rise dramatically above the river, creating one of Morocco’s most impressive natural wonders. Enjoy lunch nearby before continuing through beautiful mountain scenery toward Dades Valley.

Along the route, admire the famous Monkey Fingers rock formations and stop at panoramic viewpoints overlooking the winding roads and lush valley below.

After arriving at your hotel, enjoy dinner and relax surrounded by the peaceful landscapes of Dades Valley.

3
Dades Valley - Rose Valley - Ouarzazate - Ait Ben Haddou - Marrakech

Kasbahs, Atlas Mountains & Marrakech

Leave Dades Valley and travel through the beautiful Rose Valley, renowned for its fragrant rose fields and locally produced cosmetics.

Continue to Ouarzazate, often called the “Gateway to the Desert,” where you’ll have the option to visit the famous Atlas Film Studios before heading to Morocco’s most celebrated kasbah.

Arrive at the UNESCO World Heritage Site of Ait Ben Haddou, an ancient fortified village famous for its traditional earthen architecture and appearances in numerous international films and television productions. Explore its narrow alleys and climb to the upper terraces for breathtaking panoramic views.

By late afternoon, arrive in Marrakech, where you’ll be dropped off at your hotel or riad, marking the end of your unforgettable 3 Days Fes to Marrakech Desert Tour.

Frequently Asked Questions

Everything else you might be wondering about the trip

You don’t need to be an athlete, but you should be comfortable walking for an hour or two over uneven ground — gorge trails, kasbah stairs, soft sand. The camel trek itself needs no fitness at all; the camel does the work. If you have concerns about a specific day, ask us before booking and we’ll tell you honestly whether it’s a fit.
March–May and September–November are ideal: warm days, cool desert nights, and comfortable temperatures in the mountains. July and August in the Sahara can exceed 45°C at midday, and December–February nights in the desert camp drop close to freezing — both doable with the right prep, but worth knowing in advance.
Yes — most of our travelers come solo and join a small group of 8–12 people. Rooms are shared on a twin-share basis by default; if you’d rather have your own room, a single supplement is available on request.
Layers. Desert days are warm, but temperatures can drop sharply after sunset, especially outside summer. A warm mid-layer, a scarf or shesh for sand and sun, and comfortable closed shoes for the dunes and gorge walks cover most of it. We send a full packing list once you book.
We’d recommend bottled or filtered water throughout, which is what your guide and driver will drink too. It’s widely available, and we’ll make sure you always have access to it, including out at the desert camp.
Yes. Vegetarian, vegan, and most allergy-related requirements are easy to manage across the riads, hotels, and desert camp — just let us know when you book so we can flag it with each stop along the route.
Full details are in your booking confirmation, but broadly: cancellations more than 60 days out receive a full refund minus the deposit; inside 30 days, cancellation fees increase on a sliding scale. We’ll always talk it through with you directly if plans change.
